Community Training

CPR for Family and Friends - CPR for Family and Friends is a modular course that teaches lay rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction in the responsive victim.  This course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults.  The course also presents information on the AHA pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common fatal pediatric injuries and reduction in the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. The intended audience is all lay rescuers, such as schoolchildren, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones. The course is available in English and Spanish format.  Written/skills examinations are not required and no course completion card is issued.

Heartsaver/Adult - The Heartsaver CPR Course is a modular course that teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies.  The intended audience includes all lay rescuers, such as employees in the workplace, daycare workers, baby-sitters, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death and any lay rescuer who may need to respond to an emergency.  The Heartsaver course requires written/skills examination for a course completion card.  Topics addressed in the class include:

bullet Risk factors for cardiovascular disease
bullet Healthy lifestyle choices to reduce heart disease
bullet Signs and symptoms of a heart attack
bullet Signs and symptoms of a stroke
bullet Emergency actions to take to help a heart attack or stroke victim
bullet Adult CPR and rescue breathing skills
bullet Heimlich Maneuver to assist an adult choking victim

Heartsaver/Pediatric - This course teaches CPR skills for children and infant victims. It is ideal for new or expectant parents, daycare workers or anyone that takes care of children. No prior medical training or knowledge of CPR is required. Emphasis is on group practice, but successful course completion requires skills practice and a written exam. Topics included in the class include:

How to make your home or workplace safe for children

Risk factors that cause cardiac and respiratory arrest in children

Emergency actions to take to help a child or infant victim

CPR and rescue breathing skills for children and infants

bullet

Heimlich Maneuver to assist child and infant choking victims

Heartsaver CPR for all Ages- Combination of the adult and pediatric classes into one session

Heartsaver CPR with AED Course – Teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims and use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) for adult patients and pediatric patients over the age of 8 years old.  Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children .  Written/skills examinations are required for successful completion card.

 

Heartsaver CPR in Schools-The Heartsaver CPR in Schools Course is designed to teach both adult and pediatric lay rescuer CPR to middle and high school students.  The course presents information about the AHA adult and pediatric Chain of Survival, signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults.  The course also covers signs of choking in infants and children, prevention of the most common causes of fatal pediatric injuries and reducing risk of sudden infant death syndrome.  Written/skills examination is optional but required when a course completion card is desired.

 

Heartsaver First Aid –The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and teat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive.  The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR, and AED.  It is recommended for persons assigned to respond to emergencies in the workplace of community as well as those who want to learn first aid, CPR, and AED skills.  Some rescuers are required to take this course as part of their employer’s efforts to comply with OSHA regulations such as  corporate employees, security guards, airline personnel, lifeguards, and other individuals who want or need first aid training.  Written/skills examination is required for successful completion card.  Note:  This course can be customized to also include pediatric CPR!

HEARTSAVER Pediatric First Aid-  The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course teaches how to manage pediatric illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  Includes first aid basics, medical and injury emergencies,  environmental emergencies, optional first aid topics, and  CPR/AED.  Course is designed to meet the standards for the childcare market.  Includes textbook with study questions and required skills testing for course completion card.  Class is taught by a Healthcare Provider.

BLS for Healthcare Providers- The BLS Healthcare Providers Course teaches the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an AED, and relief of FBAO in responsive and nonresponsive victims.  The course is designed for healthcare providers who care for patients in a wide variety of settings, both in and out of hospital. It is recommended for physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs,  respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, and most health occupations and students of health occupations.  Other topics covered in the course include the following:

bullet Bloodborne Pathogen training including the use of barrier devices
bullet Two man rescue
bullet Jaw thrust maneuver

Healthcare Provider Challenge Course - Retraining course which requires less time for students who have had prior training, are proficient in skills, and hold a current CPR card.
